Sumit Ruikar, Liverpool and District Cricket Competition’s second leading wicket taker in 2021, is hoping to bring championship glory to Wallasey CC this year.
Ruikar, an overseas professional from India, scalped 87 wickets at stupendous average of 10.77 in last year’s edition of the competition. This included nine 5-wicket hauls.
He was just one wicket shy of leading wicket-taker.
As impressive as his season was, Wallasey finished second in the championship.
This is something Ruikar and his teammates want to improve on.
“This is my third season, and last season we won the cup game championship and played a few finals, as we finished second in the league.
“But this year, we want to try and win the league championship”, said Ruikar.
He added: “We need to improve a bit in all departments to win it.”
In this season’s opening game against Ormskirk, Ruikar showed his dominance again as he powered his team to a 46 run win.
Recording figures of 20.5 overs, seven maidens, 56 runs, and five wickets.
He also scored 12 off 18 with the bat to help Wallasey to a defendable total.
Reflecting on the game against Ormskirk, Ruikar was modest in his assessment of his performance.
“I just kept on my basic, turning the ball is my key, and I just backed my strength.”
After proving his ability in the Liverpool and District Cricket Competition over the past three seasons, Suikar has higher ambitions for this season’s championship.
He said: “Frankly for me there is no personal aim. I just want to win the championship for Wallasey.”
