Tranmere Rovers winger Omari Patrick may still be settling into life on Merseyside, but he says he has already struck up a good relationship with his new manager Nigel Adkins.

The Rovers winger, who arrived from Sutton United over the summer, faces his former employers in Bradford City on Saturday.

Having started eight matches in a row before being rested in the EFL Trophy on Tuesday, he is already forming a strong relationship with his new boss.

He said: “I definitely have a lot of trust in him. Its very important for players like me who thrive off confidence.

“When I came on trial, I kind of knew that I would love him as a manager. He lets me be free and express myself.”

Adkins has managed 54 games since taking over at his hometown club last September.

Patrick, one of six new faces brought to Prenton Park in the recent transfer window, felt welcome under the Rovers manager almost immediately.

“I’ve had managers where you try something, it doesn’t come off, and you’re getting shouted at,” he said. “So you don’t really want to try it again.

“But then you have to be head-strong and know that that’s your game, and that you have to try it again.

“The gaffer just lets me be me as long as I take on instructions for what he wants, off the ball and things like that. So it’s a good partnership.”

Often deployed on the left at his recent clubs, Patrick’s time has been more balanced across both wings in his time on the Wirral so far.

Impressing with his ability to switch sides, he admitted that he does have a preference, but made clear his commitment to deliver whatever is asked of him.

The 28-year-old said: “I’ve always said that I prefer the left, but if I play on the right it’s the same really. As long as I’m on the wing.

“If he trusts me in other places that aren’t the wing, that’s great for me as a confidence player, because I can do different roles and be versatile.

“The fact that he’s played me in different positions definitely showed that he trusts me so I have to show the same trust in him.”

The match against ninth-placed Bradford kicks off at 3PM on Saturday, October 12.
