Marine FC have had a tough start to the National League North after being promoted last season.

Mersey Sport Live highlights five key players the Mariners are missing from their historic promotion campaign.

  1. Sol Solomon (Tranmere Rovers FC):

Solomon is a pacy winger who can also play centrally, something Marine have been lacking this season. With only four goals scored in the league, this man has been a big miss for the Mariners. Able to provide assists and goals, that disappointing goal figure would surely be higher had they been able to keep hold of Solomon.

2. Jack Bainbridge (Chester FC):

A six foot three, holding midfielder, Bainbridge is a big presence in any side he features in. He played a vital role in Marine’s promotion season, scoring what ended up being the winning goal in the Mariners victory over Macclesfield in the play-off final.

3. Josh Wardle (Radcliffe FC):

While defence hasn’t been the weak point of Marine’s season so far, they have certainly been lacking some leadership on the pitch. This is something Wardle can, and did provide last season as he was a stalwart at the back for the Mariners.

4. Bobby Grant (Injured):

Injured at the start of the season, Grant has been a big loss for Marine. With no one to lead the line, manager Neil Young has been swapping and changing strike forces. When Marine can get Grant back, they will have a much better chance of finding the back of the net.

5. Nathan Woodthorpe (Chester FC):

Another defender, despite being relatively solid at the back this season. However, Marine have suffered with injury in the left back position. Woodthorpe had a successful spell on loan at Marine last year and has since returned to Chester, however, the Mariners could do with a player in his mould for added depth in this position.
