Litherland REMYCA are set for a huge clash this weekend, as they travel to league rivals Colne in a vital match for both sides.
REMY currently find themselves 20th in the Northwest Counties League and have struggled for form, earning just four points from their last six games.
As for Colne, they are also off form and are rooted to the bottom of the league table after losing all six of their last fixtures. A win on Saturday is needed if they want to begin a serious attempt at avoiding relegation this season.
This drop of form from both sides is unexpected giving their strong performances last season, with Colne and REMYCA finishing 11th and 12th respectfully.
REMYCA manager Luke Denson has made it clear just how important this match is. He said: “It is probably one of the biggest games of the season so far. If we can get three points it will be massive for us.”
REMY skipper Oliver Broe echoed Denson’s sentiments about the importance of Saturday’s match: “It’s a massive game for us. Obviously they’re down there as well. We’ll be looking to get three points there and look forward.”
A lack of goals has proven to be an issue for REMYCA, finding the net just three times in their last six games. Their lack of attacking threat was noted by Denson after their 4-0 defeat to top of the league Ramsbottom United in their last league outing where he said the team “struggled offensively and failed to create any real chances.”
This fixture may be the perfect opportunity for REMYCA to find their attacking prowess as Colne have been leaking goals lately, conceding 16 in their last six games.
The two sides have faced off twice in the past, both boasting a win each. A repeat of that for either team could really kickstart their season when they need it most.
