Trent Alexander-Arnold will be fit to face Manchester City in what’s being billed as a potential championship decider already.

Liverpool can go 11 points clear at the top of the Premier League table with victory, but could be without Champions League man-of-the-match Conor Bradley and French defender Ibrahima Konate.

The duo were visibly struggling in the victory over Real Madrid, Bradley was substituted in the 85th minute and Konate was seen gingerly walking down the tunnel at full-time.

Slot said: “Trent (Alexander-Arnold) is fit and ready to start against Manchester City.”

The Dutchman confirmed he has yet to find out the extent of the injuries to the defensive pair. He did confirm they have had scans, but did not rule them out against Man City.

He said: “They are still being assessed, it is difficult to see where they are in terms of the injury.

“So, let’s wait and see – it’s never a good sigh when players come off. I had to take Conor (Bradley) off and Ibou (Konate) did not walk off the pitch as he should have after such a fantastic game.

“He should have made a round and clapped fans but unfortunately he could not so that’s not a good sign.”

As he prepares to the Premier League champions and Pep Guardiola for the first time, Slot praised his next opposite number referring to the revolutionary tactics he has developed throughout his career. Slot believes the Spaniard has something up his sleeve to stop the rot City are facing.

Slot said: “One of the reasons I think Pep Guardiola is the best manager in the world is because he always comes up with solutions for his problems.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if Pep comes up with another brilliant idea. He started the inverted full-backs and centre-backs as the No.6.

“So, that is why he inspires so many. When he did it, we thought he was crazy and then we tried it, it was a brilliant idea. Let’s wait and see, if anyone can come up with something, it’s him.”

Manchester City have not won a game in six attempts, the worst run of Guardiola’s career. However, the Liverpool boss believes a fixture against City is never a walkover.

He said: “I don’t think anyone in the last eight or nine years would have said that City at home or away (would be easy). The word easy never comes to my mind.

“I know everyone is looking at their results, I have too, but if you face them and analyse it, against Feyenoord that has happened not too many times, they were three-nil up and completely dominating the game.

“One of the reasons I think Guardiola is the best manager in the world, is that he always comes up with solutions to problems. Hopefully he finds a solution after Sunday.”
