Liverpool Feds captain Chantelle Thompson says the team need to play without fear when face Championship side Sheffield United in the Women’s Adobe FA Cup Third round.
The Merseyside team will be hoping to go one better than last year and reach the fourth round of the competition.
Last season they made it to the third round proper but got knocked out by Blackburn Rovers.
Feds captain Thompson expects a challenge. She said: “We expect a really tough game on Sunday against an established Championship side, we have nothing to lose so we will go in with confidence. Anything can happen in the FA Cup.”
Feds play in the third tier of women’s football and are an independent club that rely on sponsors, volunteers and prize money.
Prize money from the FA Cup will go a long way for Liverpool Feds and they’ll be hoping for a welcome payday if they win.
Thompson added: “The goal for Sunday is to go out and play without fear and most importantly enjoy it. It’s a privilege to be able to play in the FA Cup so we will make every minute count.”
Thompson is pleased on how the team are performing this season.
She explained: “I’m proud of the girls and the team we’ve built this season, we’ve had a fantastic first half in tier three and hopefully look to take that into the FA Cup.”
Feds come into this game having only won two of the last five games and both wins coming in this competition and sit sixth in the FA Women’s Premier League Premier Division.
However The Blades have only won one and are in the bottom two of the championship.
The game kicks off at 2pm tomorrow at Jericho Lane and it will the Feds’ last game of the calendar year.
