Liverpool manager Arne Slot has said his players have to be really mentally strong going into an anticipated hostile atmosphere in the last ever Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.
Both Liverpool and Everton are tied with 41 victories each at Goodison Park and the Reds will be seeking revenge after they lost 2-0 in their last outing.
Liverpool can go nine points clear ahead of Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table with a win tomorrow after this fixture was rescheduled early in December due to weather conditions.
Slot said: “It’s probably going to be a fantastic atmosphere and that’s never easy to play against because every single time they cross the halfway line, or they get a corner kick or whatever happens, the fans will cheer for that.
“You’ve got to be really mentally strong as an away team to resist all the atmosphere and still be really focused on what you have to do.
“It’s not the first time for these players they’re playing in atmospheres like this so I hope they can focus on what they have to do.”
Slot confirmed Liverpool will be without Joe Gomez after he suffered an injury against Plymouth Argyle in their shock FA Cup 1-0 defeat on Sunday.
Trent Alexander-Arnold could potentially make a return after being partially involved in training.
The manager added: “Trent was part of the training session yesterday; he will train hopefully with us again and then we have to decide whether we take him to the game, yes or no.
“And with Joe [Gomez] it’s the same leg where he had the injury last time, we are still assessing that but he will definitely not be available tomorrow.”
The Merseyside derby kicks off at Goodison Park tomorrow (February 12th) at 8pm.
