Tranmere owner Mark Palios ended the Nigel Adkins era on Tuesday night, following a 1-0 defeat at home to Accrington Stanley.

This move has led to much activity on social media. Fans have started speculating who will take Adkins’ place.

Initially, the position will be filled by current coach Andy Crosby for Saturday’s fixture against Port Vale.

Among the names being thrown around are former manager Ronnie Moore, which seems to have gone down well with the Rovers faithful.

Moore has enjoyed two previous spells as manager, both of which came when the club was in League One.

Bookmakers have made Ryan Lowe, a former Tranmere player, the favourite to be installed into the Prenton Park dugout, with Leam Richardson, Jon Brady and Ian Evatt also given favourable odds.

Appointing Lowe would be something of a coup, given he was managing in the Championship at the start of the season, and bring fans back onside.

The Tranmere correspondent for the Liverpool Echo, Luke Feather, believes the writing has been on the wall for some time.

He said: “The decision could have been made after a few games this season (Oldham at home, Morecambe away, Colchester at home all spring to mind).

“In terms of the next manager, I’m not sure, but it would have to be someone who is able to light a fire under the players and get them playing to the best of their abilities again.”

With 13 games left, a manager is needed that can galvanise a squad short on confidence and keep Tranmere’s Football League status in tact.
