Tranmere Rovers Captain Tom Davies has said they need to ‘keep looking forward’ ahead of their home fixture against Port Vale.
Nigel Adkins was sacked as manager of the club on Tuesday night following their 1-0 defeat to Accrington Stanley.
Davies said: “It’s not been a nice week but there’s a chance to put things right on Saturday, and again on Tuesday.
“We know we’ve got to be better, and we have to go into the next few games looking to win.”
Tranmere have not won a game since January 4 and are only two points above the relegation zone.
Davies added: “We know performances haven’t been good enough and we do take responsibility for that as players.
“It’s not a position we want to be in, and you’ve got to use that as fuel to get out of it”.
With bottom of the table Carlisle picking up three points away from home, Tranmere are in desperate need of a win to keep themselves in League Two.
They face a tough opponent on Saturday, with Port Vale remaining undefeated in 2025.
Andy Crosby will take charge of the fixture following Adkins’ departure.
He admitted he took on the role with Adkins’ blessing, who he said has been a ‘big influence’ on his career.
Crosby said: “If he had been against it 100% I wouldn’t be sat here now.
“I’ve been a manager previously and I’ve been wanting to get back into management again but the focus at this football club is the here and now and what we need to do in the next 13 games, if that’s how long I’m in charge for, to secure our League Two status.
“This is a working class place with real values of honesty, hard work, commitment, bravery and courage and we need to show all those things in the pitch. We have to mirror the people we represent.”
