On Monday, Tranmere announced that interim manager Andy Crosby would be remaining in charge until the end of the season.

The former Oxford and Scunthorpe defender had taken over the role on a short term basis following Nigel Adkins’ departure by mutual consent.

In his three games so far, Crosby has picked up five points, earned a first win since early January, and ended a dismal run of 10 away defeats on the bounce.

Following last Saturday’s victory over Bromley, the club’s hierarchy saw fit to keep Crosby in place until the end of the season.

Crosby had been Adkins’ assistant at various clubs, including Southampton and Sheffield United. His most impressive, and challenging, achievement as a coach came while assistant manager at Port Vale.

When manager Darrell Clarke took a leave of absence due to a family bereavement, Crosby stepped in. Incidentally, his first game as interim manager came against Tranmere.

Clarke returned towards the end of the season, in which Vale finished in the play-off places. After winning their semi final, Clarke gave Crosby permission to lead the team out at Wembley. Vale won the final 3-0, securing promotion to League 1.

After taking over at Vale Park on a permanent basis following Clarke’s sacking, Crosby lasted less than a year in the role. That was his last appointment until he rejoined Adkins at Prenton Park in December 2024.

The news of Crosby being given the Tranmere job until the end of the season was met relatively well by supporters.

One fan said that Crosby has reinvigorated the squad so that survival is a definite possibility, while another believes that Regan Hendry’s return from injury has been more important to the upturn in results since Crosby took over:
