Liverpool were beaten 2-1 by Newcastle in the 2025 Carabao Cup final at Wembley stadium on Sunday afternoon.
After their defeat to Paris Saint-Germain at Anfield on Tuesday night, Arne Slot made two changes to the starting line-up.
Caoimhin Kelleher continued to be Liverpool’s goalkeeper choice of the cup campaign, and Jarell Quansah replaced the injured Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The beginning of the first half saw Newcastle look the most threatening, with Jacob Murphy and Sandro Tonali both having decent opportunities but failing to capitalise.
Liverpool only had one shot in the first half and just two touches in the opposition box.
Newcastle continued to apply pressure and put themselves ahead just before half-time with Dan Burn powering a header into bottom corner of the net after Kieran Trippier’s corner-kick found the box.

It didn’t get any better for Liverpool in the second half.
Moments after Alexander Isak’s close-range tap-in had been ruled offside, he doubled the Magpies’ lead.
Murphy headed Tino Livramento’s deep cross into the box, enabling Isak to sweep it into the bottom left corner.
Slot reacted with a double change, bringing on Curtis Jones and Darwin Nunez for Ibrahima Konate and Diogo Jota, who had been particularly quiet throughout the game.
Jones appeared threatening almost immediately, forcing Nick Pope to make a great save, however Liverpool still failed to score.
As the closing stages of the game approached, Cody Gakpo, Harvey Elliott and Federico Chiesa came off the bench.
Chiesa, who has been given little opportunity since joining the Reds, managed to get one back for Liverpool in added time, after a through ball from Elliott.
The goal was originally ruled offside, but the decision was overturned by VAR.
Slot’s men fought for an equaliser but it was too late, and the damage had been done, leading Newcastle to win their first domestic trophy in 70 years.
Liverpool now face a wait for their next game, which is the Merseyside Derby at Anfield on April 2.
