Liverpool manager Arne Slot expressed his delight after star forward Mohamed Salah committed his future to the Premier League side, stating that the forward could have joined any club in the world.
Salah’s contract had been set to expire at the end of the 2024/25 Premier League season, prompting speculation that he could depart the league leaders, with persistent rumours linking him with a move to Saudi Arabia.
However, the club has announced that Salah has agreed to a new two-year contract to keep him at Anfield until the end of the 2027 season.
Salah is one of three high-profile Liverpool players out of contract at the end of the current season, with Virgil Van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is expected to join Real Madrid, also reaching the end of their deals.
The news that Salah will remain at the club is a huge boost to Slot, who praised the Egypt international in a press conference at the club’s training ground.

Arne Slot delighted with new Mohamed Salah contract
Speaking ahead of Liverpool’s game with West Ham, Slot expressed his delight that Salah would remain at the club for the next two years.
“I’m happy of course. He’s shown at this club for so many years how much value we ask for the team, for the club.
“So as like, I assume all our fans and his teammates, we’re very happy that he extended for two more years and hopefully he can show Sunday again how important he has been for the whole season to us.
“Mo Salah was such a great player as a free agent, he can go probably to every club in the world wherever he wants to, but he stayed at our club and that’s also a compliment.” Slot said.
“I think what it might tell you as well, that it’s not only a good season this season, we want to make a very good season next season as well, and I think Mo is convinced that there’s a fair chance that we’re able to do so. So, again, that’s positive.”
Slot also praised Salah’s consistency, adding: “It’s clear that Mo is coming close to the end, not to the end of his career, but to the end of his ability. I think we’ve brought almost the maximum out of his qualities this season. And then it’s about consistency, which is one of the most difficult things in football.
“And that’s why he’s been seen as such a star player, because to play once or twice the way Mo does, I’m not saying everyone can, but most players can, but to do this on such a consistency level, that’s what makes it so hard

Mo Salah targeting more trophies with Liverpool
With Liverpool currently sitting 11 points clear at the top of the Premier League table, with seven games left to play, Salah looks likely to add a second league title to his list of honours with the club.
Speaking in an official club statement announcing his contract extension, Salah explained that the opportunity to win more silverware with Liverpool was a key motivating factor in his decision to sign a new deal.
Salah stated: “It’s great, I had my best years here. I played eight years, hopefully it’s going to be 10. Enjoying my life here, enjoying my football. I’ve had the best years in my career.
“I would like to say to [the fans], I am very, very happy to be here. I signed here because I believe we can win a lot of big trophies together. Keep supporting us and we’ll give it our best, and hopefully in the future we’re going to win more trophies.”
