The father of Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker has drowned after going for a swim in the dam of his holiday home in Brazil.
Jose Agostinho Becker, 57 was reported missing at 5pm local time yesterday (February 24)
Several hours later the Fire Department of Cacapava do Sul found his body on the property of his holiday home in southern Brazil near midnight.
Various reports began to emerge of the tragedy in the early hours of Thursday morning.
The news began to be confirmed by Brazilian football clubs paying tribute on their twitter pages.
Fluminense tweeted: “The Fluminense Football Club deeply regrets the death of Jose Agostinho Becker, father of goalkeepers Muriel and Alisson. We wish all friends and family all the strength.”
Internacional wrote: “It is with great sadness that we received the news of Jose Agostinho Becker’s death, the father of our ex-goalkeepers Alisson and Muriel.”
A family of goalkeepers
Alisson began his professional career as a goalkeeper with Brazilian side Internacional featuring 115 times before making a move to Roma in 2016 and then Liverpool in 2018.
Alisson’s father was a huge influence on him becoming a keeper.
In 2018, the Liverpool goalie said: “I have a family of goalkeepers.
“My father played for his work team, my mother played handball in school, and my grandfather played in amateur football.
“And after all this, came my brother playing and then I started to like it, too.”
It’s been confirmed by multiple outlets in Brazil now including @ESPNBrasil that Alisson's father was found dead.
