Former Liverpool star Steven Gerrard said there would be “no sentimental thoughts” when he takes his Aston Villa side to Anfield on Saturday.
Gerrard was asked about his return after Villa’s 2-1 victory over Leicester last night.
“None. None at all,” Gerrard insisted.
“We just want to go there and try and win, try and take what we can.”
The former Liverpool captain admitted: “We’re not competing with Liverpool in terms of the level we’re both at in this moment.
“But we’ll certainly go there and give everything we’ve got.”
Since Gerrard’s return to the Premier League to manage Villa, they have taken three wins from four games, defeating Brighton and Crystal Palace before yesterday’s win over Leicester.

Villa also took current league leaders Manchester City to the wire in a 2-1 defeat last week.
Comparing their game with Man City to their challenge in Merseyside at the weekend, he said: “We took City to the wire and I believe we should have taken something out of the game.
“So, we go there with confidence and belief, with three wins out of four.
“And we’re going to try and make it as difficult as we can.”
