Former Liverpool defender Glen Johnson believes sacking Jurgen Klopp would be unjust despite Liverpool’s poor form.
Johnson discussed the recent run of bad performances from his former team who he played 200 times in his career for.
Since the return of the Premier League following the World Cup, Liverpool have struggled immensely for form with only one win in six Premier League matches.
The former Reds and England right-back did however suggest a lack of progression between now and May could find Klopp in trouble with the Liverpool hierarchy.
“Sacking him would be very harsh,” he told Betfred.
“If the team doesn’t show any real progression between now and the end of the season, then it’s possible that the owners and Klopp may have to have a chat.”
Liverpool’s poor run could be blamed on an accumulation of injuries to key players and players out of form.
Virgil Van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Diogo Jota, Roberto Firmino, and Luis Diaz all key in Klopp’s high-intensity game plan remain sidelined.
Speaking to Betfred, Johnson believes that Klopp’s philosophy is now becoming unsustainable over a longer period.
“For the players who have been at the club for a while, and there’s a lot of them, it’s hard to maintain Klopp’s philosophy for five or six years.
“They put everything on the line and work super hard every single week and that’s very hard to do over a five or six year period.”
Liverpool’s next game is the Merseyside Derby at Anfield – a clash Liverpool have dominated under Klopp.
And they will hope they can kickstart a run of form at the expense of Sean Dyche’s Everton.
