Tranmere Rovers boss Micky Mellon insists his side won’t sit back to try and draw games as they look to recover from two losses on the bounce.

Rovers sit 12th in League Two and will make the trip to the Priestfield Stadium to take on 21st place Gillingham, who are far from safe from the drop.

The Tranmere boss stated that despite recent poor performances his side never settle for a draw, and will be searching for three points this weekend.

He said: “We don’t sit to try and draw, obviously we want to be winning every game.”

Mellon’s side were victorious in the return fixture at Prenton Park but the boss is certain this weekend will pose a different challenge.

He said: “They have invested in the January window, to try and get themselves out of the predicament they’re in.

“They’ve got a good manager and started to get themselves away from the bottom end of that table.”

Mellon also commented on injury news for key players Paul Lewis and Brad Walker. He said: “[They’re] Both probably going to be long term, we won’t have them for a good few weeks yet which is a big blow.

“It’s just part and parcel of football, we will get on with it and find another way.”

The Tranmere boss was also reflected on what his side can do differently to improve on their goal tally. They have found the back of the net once in the past three games.

“We’re creating the chances; the chances we are creating at the times we are creating them are there,” he said.

“It’s no use in me saying we created chances in the last five minutes when we were losing, we just need to show the composure of getting good contact and finishing it.”

Despite the concerns all over the EFL surrounding the poor weather the country has been experiencing, the Tranmere Rovers Supporters liaison officers have provided an update of the pitch condition, suggesting the game will go ahead.

A win for Tranmere would push the Rovers closer to the playoff places.
