South Liverpool FC manager Martin Ryman says he’s excited ahead of his side’s Edward Case Cup semi-final clash with fellow North West Counties Football League side Bacup Borough on Saturday.
Ahead of Saturday’s visit to Lancashire, Ryman told Merseysportlive: “To get to the semi-final of any cup competition is exciting and it keeps your season ticking along nicely.
“We haven’t had it easy in the competition, we’ve had to play Ashton Athletic away, Holker (Old Boys) away, Ashville away and now we’ve got Bacup away, so we haven’t had it easy, but yeah we’re looking forward to it.”
Alongside their successful Edward Case Cup run, South Liverpool have been going well in the league.
They sit fourth in the NWCFL First Division North, which is the 10th tier of English football, and are vying for promotion to the NWCFL Premier Division.
Ryman described how his side have dealt with having both league and cup commitments.
“It’s been a bit tough, especially towards Christmas near the end of the year, but we were winning a lot of games, we had a good cup run in the FA Vase.
“Trying to hit the balance of that is hard but, listen, any time we win a game of football it’s good, and the cup runs have kept our season going.”
South Liverpool faced Bacup on the opening day of the First Division North back in late July and suffered a 2-0 defeat courtesy of goals from Emmanuel Ujahchuku and Bradley Hancock.
So Ryman’s side will be looking to avoid the same fate on Saturday.
If South progress to the final, they will face either Euxton Villa or Droylsden, who lock horns in Saturday’s other semi-final clash.
