Boxer James Howarth says he has a point to prove in his next amateur bout later this year.

The 21-year-old from Anfield is deep into his training ahead and is more determined than ever before.

Howarth, who fights out of the Golden Gloves gym in Toxteth, has been putting in long sessions under the guidance of experienced coach Benji Kam.

Currently sitting at 0–2, Howarth is aiming to claim his first victory at amateur level after a shaky start to his boxing career saw him take a year out of the ring. However, since his comeback, Howarth has been putting in the rounds in the gym and the middleweight is confident in his ability.

Fight night is set to take place at Fusion Nightclub in Liverpool’s Concert Square and will be hosted by Golden Gloves against boxers from gyms across England and Wales.

Howarth believes that once he perfects his breathing and stamina, he has the skillset to take on anyone at his level. Three two-minute rounds mean it will be critical for his fitness to be up to scratch for the fast-paced, intense test.

He said: “I’ve been focused on my timing and stamina. Every session we’ve pushed the pace so when I step through those ropes, I’m ready.”

Coach Kam adds how they have put extra emphasis on both stamina and strategy in training. He said: “James has been taking everything on board and applying it during training and in sparring.

“This next fight is another opportunity for him to show off his skills and demonstrate how good a fighter he is.”
