Jurgen Klopp is expecting a ‘super dangerous’ test against Atalanta in their Europa League clash.
The Liverpool boss will be hoping to defeat the Italians over two legs to advance to the semi-finals and another step closer to a potential treble.
The trophy has evaded the German during his managerial career.
He came closest when Liverpool reached the final in 2016, with The Reds beaten 1-3 in Switzerland by Sevilla.
“It’s there but not for me personally, eight years ago or whenever it was.
“We went to Basel and played a good first half but not so good second half and lost to serial winners of the competition. Somehow the start for a lot of things.
“Last year, for the majority it didn’t look like we’d be involved at all (in the European football).
“From the moment we saw a chance to get in, we were really desperate to do so.
“And you only do that because you are Liverpool and you want to win the competition.
“For that, you have to take the steps. Only great teams are left in the competition it is really outstanding.
“We know what Atalanta is all about; Gasperini has done an incredible job there for years and years.
“It is difficult to play against the Italian teams it always was. (They are) tactically super disciplined and super dangerous in a lot of area.
“We have to be at our best to get into the next round. (We are) not thinking about the final.”
