Liverpool fan channel contributor Abigail Rudkin has experienced “dread” while attending matches alone, an issue highlighted in a recent AFC Bournemouth advert.

The advert highlighted how women may feel he need to leave football matches early or not attend at all, due to them worrying for their safety when walking home alone in the dark.

White Ribbon is the UK’s leading charity engaging men and boys to end violence against women and girls.

Their aim is to prevent violence against women and girls by addressing its root causes. They work with men and boys to change long-established, and harmful, attitudes, systems and behaviours around rigid gender norms.

One in two women feel unsafe walking home from football, and this issue has grown in recent years, incidents of sexism and misogyny in professional and grassroots football have surged.

Organizations like Kick It Out report a 400% rise in sexism-related cases.
