Tranmere impressed to clinch a 2-1 win fellow strugglers Harrogate Town at Prenton Park, with goals from talisman Kristian Dennis and winger Omari Patrick.

It was a victory deserved for the home side who Tranmere outclassed Harrogate.

The much needed victory is the first in the league for Nigel Adkin’s side since their 2-1 victory over Newport County last month.

Harrogate started the game brightly with winger Stephen Duke-McKenna causing the Tranmere defence problems down the right hand side and testing goalkeeper Luke McGee.

After 15 minutes their pressure was rewarded with winger James Daly impressively volleying home from the edge of the box, making the most of poor Tranmere defending.

The Sulphurites lead only lasted 10 minutes as Tranmere forward Kristian Dennis’s deflected strike wrong footed Harrogate goalkeeper James Belshaw to tie the game.

The home crowd got right behind their team from that moment.

Just as he did in the 3-2 defeat to Morecambe, Patrick joined Dennis on the score sheet after 67 minutes and put the Rovers in front with his 5th goal of the season.

The visitors however weren’t going down without a fight. Substitute Josh March’s stab towards goal had Tranmere fans’ hearts in their mouth for a split second before the ball was calmy collected by McGee.

With only 7 minutes remaining of regular time, Tranmere should have doubled their advantage after a goal mouth scramble was somehow kept out of the Tranmere goal following a Jennings corner.

Tranmere will be slightly disappointed to not have not scored more, however the vital victory will fill them with renewed confidence as they travel to Doncaster next weekend.
