Saturday 21st December 2019 – Robert McGurk would step on a rugby field for the last time. Then aged 20, McGurk would suffer an horrific anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury that would end his career at such a young age after a robust tackle.

Pulling on the green jacket at the Augusta National Golf Club is one of the most iconic moments in sport. Last year Hideki Matsuyama held off Will Zalatoris to win the coveted green jacket by a singular shot.

Tommy Fleetwood returned to action at the Valspar Championship in America over the weekend and finished tied 16th. The Southport-born golfer hit a final round of 71, the highest of all his four rounds, to finish at 10-under-par overall.

Tommy Fleetwood will hope to carry on the form from his top-20 finish in the Arnold Palmer Invitational when he starts his Players Championship bid. In search of his first PGA Tour win, Fleetwood has an impressive record at TPC Sawgrass.

Merseyside PGA golf coach Angus Law said the Saudi Golf League will have "no effect" on Merseyside's next generation of golfers. For over 150 years, Merseyside has played host to a rich golfing history.

American golf star Phil Mickelson says most of the World's top 100 players - including Southport's Tommy Fleetwood - have been approached to participate in a Saudi-backed Super League.  Fleetwood is currently 46 in the world and could well be one of the players who has been approached.

Tommy Fleetwood rounded off an underwhelming season with a tied 27th place finish, at the DP World Tour Championship,  10 shots adrift of eventual winner Colin Morikawa. Despite his lack of form this result, at the climax of the European Tour season, sees Fleetwood finish a respectable 15th in the DP World Tour Rankings.

Tommy Fleetwood will have his eye on capturing a first tour win in two years, when he won the Nedbank Challenge in South Africa back in November 2019. 

A band of Wirral golfers working in the professional game say they owe their successful careers to the peninsula’s courses that were recently under threat of closure. Arrowe Park, Brackenwood and The Warren were all at risk as Wirral Council looked to address a £16.5m budget deficit.
