Haydock Park plays host to a Listed Mares’ Novice Hurdle on the final day of racing in the UK and Ireland, before Christmas. However, it is the 14:40 Tommy Whittle Handicap that is the feature race of the day.
11:50 Betway Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle
The definite pick of the racecard today is Donald McCain’s FIN AND GAME. A good third in a Class 2 here last time out. Strong contender.
12:25 Betway Novices Chase
A three horse field and one standout. Nicky Henderson sends PRECIOUS CARGO up to the North-West, who will be closely matched by the Jane Williams trained Moonlighter.
13:00 Betway Abram Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle
A big absentee is Anthony Honeyball’s Deja Vue which leaves Early Morning Rain as the probable favourite. My choice goes to FLOW AWAY, where Kielan Woods rides.
13:35 #betyourway At Betway Handicap Chase
Another small field here, and CHAMBARD is my pick. Venetia Williams, uses claimed Hugh Nugent. She is bang in form at the moment and will be in a tussling match with Gavin Sheehan, who rides Rose Sea Has.
14:05 Betway Casino Handicap Hurdle
The three mile hurdle will be a domination, in my eyes, for BIG SHARK. My nap of the day without question.
Inform youngster Ben Jones takes the reins for Philip Hobbs. Philip Kirby’s Sakhee’s City will be the closest contender to this hat trick hunter.
14:40 Betway Tommy Whittle Handicap
The most open race of the day, most definitely. Orchardstown Cross won three on the trot with Jeremy Scott, before a poor run at Ascot. The interesting jockey booking from Caroline Bailey, is that Harry Skelton takes the mount on CROSSPARK. The winner of the marathon Eider chase at Newcastle means he is the pick for me.
15:15 Betway Heed Your Hunch Handicap Hurdle
Another small field sees five take to the start. McCain has another choice for me here, as CHTI BALKO loves it here. The gelding has never finished outside of the top three when running at the track. The big challenge comes from Fergal O’Brien’s Poetic Rhythm.
