Richard Hughes will take up the role of sporting director at Liverpool FC on June 1st following his decision to leave Bournemouth earlier this month.
Hughes, 44, has previously worked with FSG’s CEO of football Michael Edwards at Portsmouth and has been at Bournemouth since his retirement from professional football in 2014.
In an official club statement Hughes said: “I am fully aware of the expectations and responsibilities that come with taking this position”
“It will be my job, working with Michael [Edwards] and leading the football operations team already in place, plus the wider staff at the AXA Training Centre, to make good decisions.”
The appointment of Hughes is Edwards’ first since he rejoined FSG as CEO of football earlier this month.
He said: “I’ve known [Hughes] for half of my life in a professional and personal capacity and he is absolutely someone who embodies the best values of Liverpool FC. I trust him completely.”
