Federico Chiesa scored after starting for Liverpool under-21s in a 4-3 defeat to FC Nordsjælland in the Premier League International Cup.

It was his first involvement at any level for more than two months with a number of fitness issues.

The Reds have played three games in the competition and are yet to win. They sit bottom of the group.

Liverpool where without Tyler Morton and Trey Nyoni due to them being selected for the first team game against Newcastle, which ended in a 3-3 draw.

But Jaydan Danns started his first game since coming back from injury.

It only took two minutes for the visitors to take the lead with Levy Nene finding the net.

Chiesa helped Liverpool draw level after a simple ball played into his feet and he took two touches to find the bottom left corner.

Despite conceding first, The Reds were the much better side in the opening half with the Italian being the danger man.

But he just couldn’t get his second goal late in the first half.

Liverpool started the second 45 minutes strongly and should have taken the lead in the first 10 minutes.

FC Nordsjælland made it 2-1 from a short corner played into the box and Erik Marxen got his head onto it. The corner had stemmed from a counter attack from a Liverpool corner.

On the left side, Nene linked up with Mads Hansen to put the Danish team up 3-1 and those two players looked the most threatening for the visitors.

Four minutes later Dominic Corness found himself open and fired a shot past the away side’s keeper to give Liverpool a glimmer of hope.

And hope it was as Trent Kone Doherty ran half the length of the pitch to cut inside and make it 3-3.

Both teams threw everything at it to find the winner and Villum Berthelsen came off the bench to score for FC Nordsjælland.

The chance came after a scrappy mess inside The Reds’ box and he slotted it past Bailey Hall to make it 4-3.

The Danish side now have back-to-back wins in this competition and climb to the top of the table.

Liverpool’s next game is against Crystal Palace in the league on Monday 16th December.
