Liverpool currently sit seven points clear at the top of the Premier League table, but how do they compare to their domestic rivals when it comes to the fair play table?

The Reds have currently picked up 31 cards during the 2024/25 season, all of them being yellow, meaning they have 31 fair play points at this stage. The points are distributed as one point per yellow card, a yellow then red equals three points and a straight red will see a side pick up five points.

Liverpool’s Argentine midfielder, Alex Mac Alister has picked up the most yellow cards with eight and will miss Saturday’s Merseyside derby as a result.

Meanwhile defender, Ibrahim Konate is not far behind him with seven. There will be no surprise that striker Darwin Nunez finds himself in the top four most carded players for the Reds this season.

London side, Brentford, currently lead the fair play table, with the Bees picking up 25 points so far. Twenty of their points are from yellow cards whilst five were picked up when Christian Norgaard was shown a controversial red card away at Everton. The red card was later over turned after the game, meaning the Danish defender missed serving a three- game ban. However, the five points given from the card still remained.

The remaining three sides to make up the top four include Liverpool’s Merseyside rivals Everton who have 28 points, coming from 23 yellow cards, one straight red card and then a yellow then red. Tottenham occupy the third spot with 30 points and are alongside Liverpool as the only other side in the top four to have not received a red card so far.

Chelsea, who occupy second in the League Table, currently find themselves with the second- highest amount of points in the fair play table, currently picking up 47 points with all of those coming from yellow cards. They are also the club with the highest number of yellow cards in the league.

League newcomers Southampton find themselves rock bottom of the league table and the fair play table. The Saints have currently picked up a staggering 60 points from cards this season. That’s 13 points more than Chelsea in 19th place. The Southcoast side have collect the most red cards (3).

Last season, Liverpool were ninth in the discipline table after they picked up 84 points, where 15 of them came from straight red cards and six points came from a yellow then a red card. Defenders Virgil van Dijk and Konate were sent off for the Reds whilst midfielders Curtis Jones and Alexis Mac Alister were also given their marching orders. Forward Diego Jota completed the list.

With how the fair play table is shaping up this season, there is no surprise to see that Chelsea were the most ill disciplined side of the 2023/24 campaign. The Blues accumulated 117 fair play points. The most number of points in a season by a team in over 10 seasons.
