Liverpool manager Arne Slot has confirmed Trent Alexander-Arnold will play this weekend against Manchester United, despite links to Real Madrid.
The 26-year-old’s contract runs out at the end of the season, and there have been reports this week that Real Madrid are looking to land the defender this January.
Slot has spoken to the Liverpool vice-captain but has shut down any rumours that he may depart Anfield this month.
Slot said: ”I can tell you that he is playing on Sunday, I think that everybody saw how great of a first half of a season he’s had.’
”I see him on the training ground every day, working his a*** off. He’s fully committed to us.’’
Liverpool are still hoping Alexander-Arnold will sign a new deal at the club before his deal expires this summer, alongside Virgil Van Dijk and Mohamed Salah.
Slot will be hoping the Reds can continue their great form against bitter rivals Manchester United, with Liverpool sitting six points clear at the top of the Premier League with a game in hand.
Despite Manchester United sitting in 14th in the league, and without a win in their last four, Slot believes they have more quality than the league suggests.
Slot said: ”For me, they have much better players, in my opinion than the league shows at the moment.’
”It’s going to maybe take a while for Ruben Amorin for them to go up, but they are much, much, much better than the league table shows.’’
Liverpool fans will be glad to hear that Ibrahima Konate and Conor Bradley are back in training ahead of Sunday’s game, but Joe Gomez is ”out for a few weeks’’.
