Liverpool will host Newcastle United tomorrow night at 8:15 and will be hoping to walk away with a better result than they did last time the two sides met.

The frantic 3-3 result back in December saw a 90th minute equaliser from Fabian Schär, cancelling out Mohamed Salah’s brace.

The Egyptian is a likely candidate for the Ballon d’Or given his and Liverpool’s outstanding form in both the Premier League and Champions League.

“In general, someone that wins the Ballon d’Or needs to win something as well so it’s a great challenge that is in front of us but also in front of him (Salah).

“What I liked a lot is that he takes this challenge not only by scoring a big goal and a great assist against City but he also wanted the team to win because his defensive work rate, especially in the second half was outstanding”

Arne Slot reiterated the message that the Premier League title race is not yet over and that his players are still focused on the challenge ahead.

“These same players played Newcastle away which was a very difficult game for us. These players know how difficult every game is and if you have to play eleven (games), it’s still a long way to go.”

It was Alexander Isak that opened the scoring in the reverse fixture and the Swede has continued his form, netting 19 goals so far this season.

“It is an understatement to say that he is in fine form, I think he’s in excellent form. The more possession we have, the easier it will be to control him, although he is definitely a threat on the counter attack.

“We’ve got two very, very, very good centre backs and that definitely what you need if you face a striker with the quality of Alexander Isak.

“But it’s not only about him, I also like the style of play that Eddie Howe introduced, they’re always a team that has a very good game plan, they’re really intense with an without the ball.”

Reflecting on Newcastle’s 4-3 win over Nottingham Forest and what this means for Liverpool, Slot was full of praise for Newcastle.

“They can score a lot of goals, they have so much offensive threat and I think normally they are not a team that concede so many goals because they are very aggressive in defending as well. That’s what makes them such a difficult team to play against.”

The fixture against Newcastle will be Liverpool’s 5th game in 15 days before a 10-day break ahead of their game against Southampton.

“These players are trained for this and they’re used to this. If they go to a World Cup or Euros they have to play those amount of games in a short spell of time as well so they are able to do so.

“They’ve shown many times this season already that they are able to but it was the reason why I changed my lineup against Plymouth so drastically, because I don’t think you can do this for a whole season.

“Of course it hurt us in the FA Cup but it also means that these players are now able to play five games in a row at the highest possible level.”

One man who will be pivotal if the Reds are to get a result against Newcastle will be Mo Salah who scored twice against the Magpies last time out.

Should he get an assist against Newcastle tomorrow, he will become the first Premier League player in history to do so 6 consecutive times against one oppponent.

“Mo has had some outstanding seasons here at Liverpool and we hope he can continue this for a longer period of time, but to do that he first has to extend his contract”

“What I see is a top professional, not only what you guys see on the pitch but he comes in early, works so hard on his body and I think that he even works at home as well. He knows now what to do to treat his body in the best possible way and for him to get the performances in that he does.”

“If you want to play at this club, you need to be at his level because we only need players that are at the top of their game because this is one of the best, or the best club in the world to play for.”

The Reds will be hoping Nottingham Forest can trouble Arsenal as they did Liverpool and give them the chance to go 14 points clear should Arsenal lose.

The game against Newcastle will kick off at 8:15 tomorrow night at Anfield.
