Manager Matt Beard has left his post at Liverpool Women FC, the club has confirmed.

Liverpool Women currently sit seventh in the WSL on 15 points after 14 matches.

With just eight matches left in the season and a quarter-final against Arsenal.

Last season Liverpool finished in fourth with 41 points, with numerous memorable moments, including nearly costing Chelsea the WSL title after beating them 4-3.

However, recently Liverpool’s run of form has been inconsistent with two wins and three losses in their last five WSL matches.

Matt Beard said in his last press conference they aimed to reach fifth by the end of the season.

He said: “The top four have broken away.

“Our ambition now is for 5th or 6th and if we can go on a run like we did last year with winning matches then we give ourselves a good chance of doing it.”

Beard has made history with the Reds in both of his managerial stints at the club.

When he first joined in 2012 he guided Liverpool to two WSL titles in 2013 and 2014 – their first ever.

He rejoined the Reds in 2021, leading them to a Championship title win and promotion back into the WSL.

Despite the rocky season, Beard made history with the team and will go down as one of their best managers to date.

Liverpool’s next match is away to bottom of the league Crystal Palace on Sunday March 2.

It is unclear yet who will take over as Liverpool manager for the rest of the season.
