Bayer Leverkusen can cause Liverpool’s backline a number of issues in tonight’s Champions League tie, according to Jonah Eisermann from Bayer Leverkusen fan channel WerkselfXtra.

Despite Liverpool’s impressive start to the season that has seen the Reds’ only concede nine goals across their opening 15 games in all competitions, Leverkusen fans are confident that the likes of Florian Wirtz and Victor Boniface can find the target tonight to upset the home side.

Wirtz recently finished 12th in the standings for the 2024 Ballon D’or race and has already scored seven goals this campaign from midfield.

Jonah from @bayer04Xtra on X is hopeful that the German could be the difference tonight as he said: “Even though Liverpool are really good defensively this season, Florian Wirtz just has the X Factor there.

“He has been playing amazingly in the Champions League too. I expect that [Wirtz] will play well and find success in the final third of the pitch.”

But even though the Leverkusen supporter thought that they can cause Liverpool problems, he also acknowledged his team have so far not quite played at the levels that they reached last season: “The team is playing worse, not so much in the offence but in the defence, we are just conceding way too many goals.

“Last league season we conceded 24 goals across the whole campaign, this season we have already conceded 15.”

Tonight’s game will be the first time that 2005 Champions League winner Xabi Alonso returns to Anfield as a player or manager.

After Arne Slot told the media yesterday that he didn’t know what it was that makes the Spaniard “so special”, Eisermann said of Alonso: “The tactics, the football, the results. But then he brought the mental aspect to Leverkusen that no other manager could before.

“He managed to instil a new mentality and new confidence to the team. With all the last-minute goals, they were created the same way with a confidence and a mentality that is really great to see. They never give up.”

The travelling support are confident ahead of tonight’s huge European tie. A big win for either side could see them top the 36-team table by the end of the fourth round of fixtures.
