New Warrington Town midfielder Jack McCourt has promised the side’s fortunes will improve as they prepare to face Chester this weekend.

Town welcome their rivals to The Cal.Delivery Stadium in a highly-anticipated derby in the National League North fixture tomorrow.

Both sides come into the game desperate to win. Warrington sit 18th in the league table – two points above the relegation zone.

Chester’s fortunes are far better this season, they sit seventh in the league just inside the play-off places.

The Yellows added McCourt to the squad before the Rushall Olympic game to bolster their midfield options, and he has promised Warrington’s league position would improve.

McCourt said: We’ve got a good balance in terms of experience and younger lads. The longer we play together, the easier it’ll become.

“I know we have a good team here. The league position may not show it, but we should be higher and we will be higher.

“We got ourselves into good positions on Tuesday night. We just need to be more creative and positive with our end product.”

The home side haven’t won since the 22nd of October, racking-up four losses and four draws in all competitions.

Last time out The Yellows played out a 0-0 draw with Scarborough Athletic, perhaps something to build on for Warrington as they look to kick their season into life. Warrington have won four times this season, three of those coming at home.

Chester’s form has picked-up in the last two games, beating top of the league Chorley 2-1 and Oxford City 3-1 both at home.

This lifted them into play-off contention after a mixed bag of results to start the season. The Seals have closed the gap to four points on Chorley.

Last season both teams found themselves comfortably mid table, Chester finished 10th and Warrington 12th with five points splitting the sides. Warrington were the happier of the two after being promoted to the National League North the season prior.

In the head-to-head last season, both teams claimed a victory. The fixtures played either side of New Year’s Eve, Chester won at home 2-0 on Boxing Day while Warrington took a 1-0 win at Cantilever Park (The Cal. Delivery Stadium) on New Year’s Day.

Charlie Caton is Chester’s top goal scorer with nine, joint fifth in the division. Tom Peers has also been sharp in front of goal this season bagging seven goals so far and a hattrick last time out against Oxford City.

Warrington has been goal-shy this season; Connor Woods leads the way with five goals in all comps.

Traditionally this fixture has been a fiery one, with both teams eager to take all three points and climb their way up the table. The scene is set for an exciting Merseyside match-up.
