Tranmere are on the look out for a new manager following Mike Jackson’s sacking on Saturday.

The 1-0 defeat to Morecambe at Prenton Park proved to be too much for chairman Mark Palios.

Ten games in, the Birkenhead club who were relegated from League One last season, sit 18th in League Two.

Assistants Ian Dawes and Andy Parkinson in charge for tomorrow’s game against Harrogate Town.

But who are the names that could take over at Prenton Park?

After Saturday’s match, chairman Mark Palios felt a change of manager was needed saying “it’s a results and performance based game” and had already looked a list of candidates who could succeed Jackson. We look at the top 5 favourites with the bookies.*

Nigel Adkins

The heavy favourite is former Southampton manager Nigel Adkins, who played for Tranmere from 1983-86, playing 86 times for the club.

It goes by Palios’ preference of having someone who’s played for, and who knows the value of the club. Adkins has also managed Scunthorpe United and Hull City.

Current odds- 11/10 favourite

Graham Alexander

Former Burnley player and Salford City manager Graham Alexander is joint second favourite. Alexander played 154 times for Burnley scoring 20 goals and most recently managed Salford City but was sacked earlier this season.

Current odds- 6/1

Sol Campbell

Former England defender Sol Campbell is another name being rumoured.

Campbell has had recent managerial experience when he took charge of Southend United and Macclesfield Town, but was sacked from both of those roles after disappointing results.

Campbell is joint second favourite with Alexander.

Current odds- 6/1

John McGreal

Another former player, McGreal played 195 times for Tranmere from 1990-1999 scoring only once for the club.

Recently he has been manager of Colchester United but was sacked in July this year after 5 years with the club.

Current odds- 8/1

Anthony Barry

Finally, the fifth favourite with the bookies is current Chelsea first team coach Anthony Barry.

He has no previous managerial experience in the game but was born in Liverpool so will know the importance of a club like Tranmere.

Current odds- 10/1
