Arne Slot has revealed Trent Alexander-Arnold will be absent from tomorrow’s squad as the Reds look to overturn a 1-0 deficit against Tottenham Hotspur in their Carabao Cup semi-final.

The full-back sustained an injury to his thigh forcing him off against Bournemouth in the 70th minute in Saturday’s 2-0 victory.

Slot did, however, confirm Trent is ‘already on the pitch with the rehab coach’ and is expected to be fit for the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park on February 12.

With the transfer window ending on Monday night without any signings for Liverpool, Slot was keen to display the faith he has in his team, adding “there are not many managers that have such a squad as I have.

“If you look at the league table I think the players have shown that the trust we have in them was correct.”

In the first leg of the semi-final against Spurs, referee Stuart Atwell made history by announcing a VAR decision over the PA system as Dominic Solanke’s goal was ruled out for offside.

Slot said: “That was so obvious, it was not really necessary to announce that it was offside.

“We were more interested in why he didn’t give the second yellow card (against Bergvall) and that is something he didn’t have to explain.

“Nothing changes for this game compared to all the others.

“If you wear this shirt, if you go out at Anfield, there is only one thing expected of you and that is winning the game.”

Slot also called for a change in squad size regulations in England.

“Everywhere around the world I don’t understand why we don’t go to 23 in this country because this country plays the most games and we only have 20 players we can take to the game.

“Since it is the rule over here that is probably going to be the most difficult decision I have to make for tomorrow, not the first 11 but to leave someone out who works so hard on a daily basis.”

Slot’s side kick off tomorrow (February 6th) at 8pm.
