Tranmere Rovers picked up a crucial point against Fleetwood Town at Prenton Park last night (Feb 11) after it finished goalless.

Few opportunities came for either team inside the opening 10 minutes.

The home side’s best chance of the first half came from a close-range effort from Kristian Dennis in the 19th minute but it was blocked by Fleetwood’s goalkeeper Jay Lynch.

A chance for the Cod Army came just minutes later, but Luke McGee’s shot was sent wide of the post.

It remained goalless at half-time, after a positive start from the Rovers.

The opening minutes of the second half almost saw Ryan Graydon put Fleetwood ahead as he slipped past McGee in the 50th minute, but Lee O’Connor made a huge intervention to prevent it.

The Rovers began to put on the pressure, with Sol Solomon and Josh Davison having shots in the closing stages of the game, but they failed to find a winner.

The point could be crucial to Tranmere’s season, as they currently sit 22nd in League Two, just four points off the relegation zone.

They have now gone seven games without a win, with five of those being losses, and this was their first clean sheet since January 4.

The pressure is increasing on Rovers boss Nigel Adkins, who has praised his side for their efforts against Fleetwood.

He expressed his disappointment at not clinching a win at home, but said: “For me we were totally committed in trying to be attack-minded in what we’ve done.

“We’ve kept a clean sheet which is important.”

Tranmere’s next fixture is at home against MK Dons on Saturday, kick-off at 3pm.
