Liverpool have endured their worst start ever to a Premier League season in a decade, only managing two wins in their opening nine games and sitting 10th.

The quadruple dream of last season may seem a distant memory, but Liverpool can still have lofty ambitions, inspired by this week’s 7-1 Champions League thrashing of Rangers at Ibrox. The result could yet be a turning point for Jurgen Klopp’s men, who showed a glimmer of their impressive form of last season, and the ideal platform to face the might of Manchester City.

Stunning the unstoppable Erling Haaland and the title favourites!

Liverpool fans will see this as a mountain to climb, and they’re right.

City are the only unbeaten team left in the Premier League, winning seven and drawing two, scoring 33 goals in those nine games with City’s two-star players, Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland being pivotal.

Liverpool still boast world class players themselves fans should be confident considering the talent they possess. Virgil Van Dijk vs Haaland and Thiago vs De Bruyne could be crucial battles.

Other top players such as Alisson Becker, Andy Robertson, Jordan Henderson and the in-form Roberto Firmino and Mohammed Salah give Liverpool more than enough in the bid to upset Pep Guardiola.

City’s one win at Anfield in the last 20 years is a massive factor. Liverpool and their fans must utilise the roar of the Anfield atmosphere and give the Cityzens a tough time if they want to come out on top Sunday afternoon.

Liverpool FC still have “The Normal One.”

While Manchester City have Pep Guardiola, Liverpool still have Jurgen Klopp.

His track record speaks for itself, winning seven trophies with Liverpool since his appointment in 2015 including Premier League and Champions League titles.

It is not the first time Liverpool have been here. They underperformed in the 2020/2021 season due to injuries to key players including Virgil Van Dijk. They still managed to finish third.

Arguably the best man manager in world football, Klopp is a master at picking his players up when they need it most. His passion and relatability make him all players’ dream to work with. If anyone can turn this team around and give them their confidence back, it’s Jurgen Klopp.

It’s a marathon not a sprint!

The start has not been good enough and they have performed below expectations, but there is no need to get carried away just yet.

10 points from the first eight games is poor, but there are still 30 games to be played, leaving the Reds plenty of time to put together a run of wins which they are perfectly capable of doing.

In the 2019/2020 season, Liverpool won 18 games in a row and in 27 games they won 26 and drew one, before losing to Watford 3-0 in February 2020.

Once Liverpool gets into their groove, winning 10 games in a row would not be a surprise, and with a long way to go who knows, anything can happen in football.
