Liverpool women beat Arsenal 1-0 in Meadow Park to progress to the FA Cup semi-final for the first time in eight years.

The reds came into the match as the underdogs having only beat Arsenal once in the last 12 meetings.

The 78th minute goal went down as an own goal for Arsenal keeper, Van Domselaar, after Sophie Roman Haug’s shot deflected off of the bar and then the keeper.

Roman Haug was Liverpool’s strongest player with shots on target in the 44th and 58th minute after mistakes from the Arsenal keeper.

Marie-Therese Hobinger was unlucky not to have a goal after her shot was saved in 59th minute.

Despite numerous attempts from Arsenal in injury time, Rachel Laws and her backline, kept a clean sheet and denied the Gunners an equaliser.

The reds have never won the FA Cup- achieving runner-up twice.

Last time they were in the FA Cup semi-final was the 2016/17 season where they were defeated 1-0 by Manchester City, who went on to win the competition.

This game is Amber Whiteley’s second in charge after Matt Beard’s departure.

She has two wins from two after beating Crystal Palace last week.

She now has the chance to take the reds to Wembley should they win their semi-final tie.

The reds now take on Women’s Super League leaders, Chelsea on 12th/13th April in London for the semi-final.
