Liverpool have fond memories of the Wanda Metropolitano – the home of Atletico Madrid.
On June 1 2019, number six came home to Merseyside from that very stadium.
Now Jurgen Klopp’s Reds are looking to replicate that Champions League success, and the next step is to return to the place where they last won it.
Klopp spoke to the media about their return to the Wanda Metropolitano ahead of the Champions League group game with Atletico Madrid tomorrow night (October 19).
The German coach stressed the importance of getting a good result over the Spaniards by claiming that the two games against them could be decisive for the group.
“Yes, if we win both games against Atletico then it is pretty likely that we go through,” he said.
“That was clear from the beginning I would say, but we lost both last time against Atletico.
“It’s a tough place to go.”
Klopp also spoke about Mohamed Salah who is in the form of his life, and his thoughts on the Egyptian’s Ballon D’or chances.
“Yes (On Salah Ballon D’or chances), I have no idea how you win the Ballon D’or exactly, if it’s about being in the Champions League scoring the most goals or whatever then it could be slightly difficult maybe.
“If it is anything to go off his performances in the last three years then yes, he has a chance.”
Salah scored another wonder goal against Norwich City just a week after his sensational goal against Manchester City.
It is clear to see why Salah is seen as best in the world by many.
Another man in form is Roberto Firmino who bagged a hat-trick at Carrow Road on Saturday.
Klopp declared he has been a ‘massive talent’ for his side.
“The connector of all the pieces,” Klopp said of the Brazilian.
“Unfortunately, he didn’t have a proper pre-season, then getting injured – that’s not too helpful.
“But the three goals at the weekend for sure will help him a lot.”
Atletico vs Liverpool will kick off at 8pm on Tuesday.
