Marine boss Neil Young doesn’t think his side have achieved what their performances deserve this season as they prepare to face Scunthorpe tomorrow.

The Mariners play host to fourth-placed Scunthorpe United at the Marine Travel Arena in the National League North.

Marine currently sit in 22nd and have the chance to escape the relegation zone with a result.

Young said: “We’ve played well in general for most of the season, without getting our reward in a lot of games.

“I think we’ve played particularly well in the last four games, again, probably haven’t got what we deserved because we haven’t put our opportunities away.”

This will be the first return fixture of the season for Marine after losing 3-0 when they faced the Iron at Glanford Park in August.

Young said: “We’re playing Scunthorpe United probably in front of a full house, it’s a big game and shows how far we’ve come as a football club.

“We’re really looking forward to it, it’s a great game at home just before Christmas.”

Young’s side share the same record as their opponents with one win and two draws in their last five games in the league.

Scunthorpe started the season unbeaten for their first eight games, however, have since slowed down, winning just two in their last nine games in all competitions.

Both sides last game came against Alfreton Town with Scunthorpe drawing 0-0 at home, whereas Marine played out a disappointing 1-0 loss after missing two big chances in the game.

The Mariners will be hoping to finally get the result they’ve been looking for to take them out of the relegation zone for the first time this season. Their last outing was a defeat at Alfreton on Tuesday night.

A key player for Marine this season has been central midfielder, Kristi Montgomery, however he picked up an injury midweek after playing Spennymoor on Tuesday 26th November.

Young was hoping he would be available for Saturday but has confirmed that the midfielder is still injured.

He said: “Kristi is still injured, I’m hoping to have a better understanding of where he’s at tomorrow.”

Kick off is at 3pm.
