Liverpool will now be looking behind them in the chase for Champions League qualification after their home defeat to Manchester City.
After only six wins since September and sitting only sixth in the Premier League, Arne Slot is coming under further scrutiny.
The Anfield side spent £450 million in the summer, and have the highest wage bill in English football, the Reds cannot afford to fail.
Liverpool have already earned around £83 million for participating in this season’s Champions League.
But if Liverpool fail to qualify this season, it will be the first time since 2022/23 and be a massive blow to their income as well as pride.

Slot was pushed by members of the press yesterday (February 10th) over his future if Liverpool fail to qualify.
He replied: “I don’t decide on my future.
“It has happened before, recently, but it didn’t effect the future for that manager.
“If we don’t have Champions League football, it has definitely not been an acceptable season.”
Although the Dutchman hasn’t been helped by injuries, if they fail to qualify by May, there will be no excuses.
