Couhaib Driouech scored a brace to pile more pressure on Liverpool manager Arne Slot as PSV came away 4-1 victors, writes Lewis Francis at Anfield.
It’s now the third game in a row where Liverpool have conceded three or more goals, making the defence an obvious worry for Slot.
Liverpool’s worst run of form since 1953 has seen them win just three of their last 12 games in all competitions demonstrating how poor the Premier League champions have been this season.
The Reds controlled most of the game and had plenty of opportunities to put the ball in the back of the net but paid the price for their inability to find a way past PSV keeper Matej Kovar.
The Dutch side opened the scoring after just five minutes when Virgil van Dijk handled in the area allowing Ivan Perisic to score from the spot.
Liverpool equalized 10 minutes later after Cody Gakpo cut in from the left to force a save from Kovar which handed Dominik Szoboszlai an open goal.
It was an even game from here with both sides having chances. PSV had a goal disallowed for offside, and van Dijk saw a header ricochet off the crossbar.
Ten minutes after the break Guus Til put the away side in front after a world class through ball from Mauro Junior.
Gakpo had a terrific chance to equalize for the second time when a Szoboszlai cross was floated in, but the Dutchman couldn’t hit the target.
Driouech then added a third for the home side when Ricardo Pepi struck the post, with the rebound falling kindly for the Moroccan.
The 23-year-old then put the nail in the coffin, adding a fourth in injury time to make this an embarrassing result for a team stacked with superstars but seemingly lacking confidence.
Slot’s side find themselves in 13th position in the Champions League group stage, and 12th in the Premier League ahead of a trip to West Ham at the weekend.
The question is how much time will Slot be given after this terrible run of games or can the Reds recover some kind of form in the forthcoming weeks.
