Birkenhead Park Panthers player Kate Thompson says the return of the Wirral Touch League will help the team to stay sharp ahead of their next season in the Championship North Two. Restarting again this month, the Wirral Touch League allows players the opportunity to compete in a more relaxed environment, without the pressure of the normal league campaign.  

St Helens fans bemoaned their side's 30-10 away defeat to Castleford Tigers at the weekend. Merseysportlive reporter Andy Lott spoke to some fans after the match.

Widnes Vikings face Newcastle Thunder away from home on Monday night having lost consecutive league games. The Vikings sit fourth in the table after going unbeaten in their first four matches but were defeated by Barrow Raiders and York City Knights in the last two rounds.

The reigning champions St Helens face a potential giant-killing when they travel to the Recreation Ground in the sixth round of the Challenge Cup. They face a Whitehaven side who have only lost two of their last five games including an impressive win over York in the previous round of the cup.

It was a disappointing weekend for Merseyside teams as St Helens, Warrington Wolves and Widnes Vikings all lost. All three teams have made promising starts to their respective campaigns but suffered setbacks in Round 6 of the season.

St Helens continue their undefeated start to the season, beating the Warrington Wolves 28-2.
