Widnes Vikings have appointed former NRL and Super League coach, Tim Sheens, as their new boss on a two-and-a-half-year deal, subject to international clearance.

Sheens will link up with the Vikings after four months out of management following his sacking from Super League club, Hull KR.

The Australian will be bringing a vast amount of coaching experience to Cheshire. He started his coaching career back in 1984 when he was appointed head coach of Penrith Panthers.

Sheens experienced a large amount of success down under, winning three Grand Finals with Canberra, whilst, one with Wests Tigers. He also instigated Hull KR’s rise to Super League, gaining promotion in 2017.

The Vikings have been looking for a head coach since Kieron Purtill resigned just one week ago.
