Everton were reportedly planning to sign the newest Brazilian wonderkid, Reinier Jesus, but their plans may have backfired.

Flamengo have announced that the 17-year-old has signed a deal that extends to 2024.

The Blues wanted to wait until the Brazilian was available to sign a pre-contract deal. The teenage playmaker’s contract would have expired in December 2020.

Jesus lit up the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A with four goals and two assists in his first ten games.

The midfielder has earned comparisons to World Cup winners Kaka and Ronaldinho.

Whilst Everton may not give up their hopes of signing the young starlet, they will certainly have a harder time securing his signature.
