Southport new signing Charlie Oliver made his debut against King’s Lynn on the weekend.

Oliver replaced Raul Correia in the 60th minute as the Sandgrounders were defeated by newly promoted King’s Lynn 2-1.

The defeat ended Southport’s five match winning streak at home.

Port signed the young central defender after his contract with Premier League champions Manchester City expired.

Oliver failed to make a first team appearance for the Citizens in his ten years at the academy.

The defender had loan spells at Fleetwood and Brentford B during his time at City. Only making one appearance for the Fishermen.

Oliver joins up with former Man City academy teammate Marcus Wood.

Southport manager Liam Watson had this to say about their new signing:

“I’m really pleased that Charlie has agreed to sign for us,

“He’s an extremely promising player with a really good pedigree. He can play right across the back four and as a holding midfielder, so he gives us strong variety and good options.

“He spent a lot of time with Manchester City and played in the same youth teams as Marcus Wood. He’s a young lad who joins us at a good age and I’m sure we’ll see him flourish.”
