Russian newcomer, Alena Kostornaia, set a new short program world record en route to win her second Grand Prix.

The 16-year-old scored 85.04 after a superbly executed program. The previous world record was 83.97 set by Rika Kihira earlier this year.

Yesterday, in the free skate, the Russian made a little mistake in her second triple axel, but was still more than enough to keep her in gold medal position.

Kostornaia, the current Junior Grand Prix Final champion, is in her first season as a senior but was able to beat reigning World and Olympic champion, Alina Zagitova twice.

In the men’s competition, Yuzuru Hanyu, the two-time Olympic Champion showed his class once again to win by a huge margin.

The figure skating season continues in December with the Grand Prix Final.
