A number of sixth-form students at Everton Football College attempted to break a Guinness World Record over the weekend, hoping to take part in the longest running five-a-side football match.

Unfortunately for the 16 students that took part in the challenge, they failed to break the world record, which currently stands at 72 hours.

The kids at Everton, all aged 17 and 18, played through an admirable 27 hours of continuous play, with the number of goals far exceeding the 1000 mark.

All the staff at the college pulled together to provide both motivation and refreshments for the players, as well as sorting out sleeping arrangements on site.

The world record attempt was in aid of a great cause, as over £140 was raised for the youngsters to attend a once in a lifetime trip over to the United States to compete in the 2020 Dallas Cup.

Furthermore, the donations contributed towards the Everton in the Community’s People’s Place campaign.
