Liverpool tennis star Neal Skupski has missed out on qualification to the ATP Finals next month despite winning his first tournament with partner Jamie Murray.

In what turned out to be a bittersweet day, the pair claimed victory in Sofia after a walkover handed them the title.

But, Jurgen Melzer and Edouard Roger-Vasselin clinched the final qualification spot after successfully beating Tomislav Brkic and Marin Cilic, 7-5, 6-4.

A disappointing performance in Paris just last week meant the pair were relying on others failings as they took to court this week in Bulgaria.

Murray and Skupski collectively finished 9th in ATP Standings for the calendar year and will miss out on the Finals due to take place in London next month.

There may still present and opportunity to compete should any of the eight pairings withdraw in the run up to the finals.
