Both Liverpool and Everton’s women’s sides picked up wins at the weekend in their respective leagues.

Everton took a two goal lead away to Spurs through Valérie Gauvin’s brace of penalties.

However the hosts drew level on the hour through Angela Addison and Gemma Davison respectfully.

Just four minutes later the Toffees regained their lead when Jill Scott converted from a close range from a succession of corners.

First win for Whiteley

Liverpool had a much more comfortable affair. The Reds brushed a side London Bee’s 3-0 with goals from Becky Jane and late strikes from Ceri Holland and Amy Mae Rodgers.

Since Vicky Jepson’s departure in January, Liverpool were yet to win in the WSL 2 with a draw to Charlton and loss to runaway leaders Leicester.

Now under new interim coach Amber Whiteley The Reds can move up to third with victory against Crystal Palace at the weekend.

Whiteley proved tactically adequate making a triple substitution. With twenty minutes remaining her side were in control. Although lacking the penetrative passing necessary to break down Bee’s mid block.

She introduced Rachel Furness, Melissa Lawley and Rodgers who added the injection of pace necessary to secure all three points.

Tough run for Toffees

As for Everton, they sit comfortably fifth in the Women’s Super League with manager Willie Kirk impressed by his sides performance:

“It would’ve been easy for the players to accept a draw, but they showed a bit of character to dig in and get the win.”

The next step for Everton is to chase down a top four space, but face the top two in-between a trip to Birmingham City.

They face formidable opposition in Man City next. The Citizens have won their last five consecutive matches and are looking to chase down Chelsea for the title.

Everton will be looking for revenge in that fixture as a rematch of the 2019-20 Women’s FA Cup final. Last time out it took extra time for City to clinch the trophy.
