England finished 2021 off in impressive fashion with a convincing 30-10 victory against France at the Stade Gilbert Brutus.

The Three Lions started the game strong with a fifth minute try from Wigan skipper, Liam Farrell opening the scoring.

Farrell received the ball from Paul McShane and was able to power through France’s defence for an easy four points.

Just seven minutes later, England were in again. Castleford star Niall Evalds found the path of Tom Davies, and the Catalans Dragons star was able to finish acrobatically in the corner in his home stadium.

It was only a matter of time before England were in again. This time it was the turn of the St Helens’ stars.

Jonny Lomax dragged in three French defenders allowing fellow Saint, Tommy Makinson, to gain an easy score in the left corner.

Saints’ bulldozer, Alex Walmsley, found himself right in the thick of the action for England too.

Following a barnstorming run from the big man, England were in again, with skipper John Bateman breaking through the French defence and scoring under the post to take England 20-0 up at half-time.

The Frenchmen were the first to respond in the second half, with Clorentin Le Cam touching down in the 46th minute.

It was the first of two consolation tries for France, as just after Jonny Lomax’s sinbin in the 70th minute, England were in again.

Makinson scored his second of the afternoon as Zak Hardaker passed the ball out wide which left the Saints star open for the try.

Another try followed for France, but it was England who had the last say, with John Bateman finishing off England’s stellar afternoon with a stellar try of his own.
