Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has said he and Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone are ’emotional’ people.

It comes after Simeone said in his pre match press conference that he does not like shaking hands at the end of a game with managers.

Simeone said: “I don’t like the greetings after the match. Because they are the emotions of two sides that are different, so I don’t like it.

“I know in the UK it’s the custom and a sign of chivalry.

“But I don’t share it, so I behave as I feel. I don’t know Klopp as a person, all I know is he’s a great coach, I don’t give opinions on other coaches.”

In response to that, the Liverpool manager said: “I respect a lot what he’s doing, but we cannot speak about each other as we don’t know each other, but I couldn’t respect him more.

“If I would have known he doesn’t do it after the game I wouldn’t have tried it.

“But we are both emotional, and now I know he doesn’t like to do it after the game.

“We will probably shake hands before the game tomorrow I assume, but after the game no, but it’s no problem.

“In between the two handshakes it’s a very important game for us.”

Klopp’s side can qualify as group winners with two games to spare tonight if the Reds beat Atletico, and Porto fail to beat AC Milan.

Kick off is at 8.
